Gerald Brown, Photographer

Gerald Brown is a resident of Sopchoppy, Florida, located in Wakulla County. His artistic leanings stem from early childhood when he took to drawing. Forever seeking a way to make those images come to life, it wasn’t until high school that his mother, Jean, bought him is first camera.

Life, however, took him on a different path for some time, and away from his passion. He worked as a professional arborist for more than twelve years. After the great flood of Tropical Storm Debbie (2012) he bought Joel Sartorie’s The Great Courses on Photography. The new medium of digital camera formats allowed him to better develop his photographic eye and express more than he thought capable through the lens. It was Rick Ott who asked Gerald to take photos of a jam session in his recording studio, also located in Sopchoppy. It was this moment, while photographing musicians Frank Lindamood and Grant Peeples, that started his journey of live music photography. After seven years, Gerald is finally publishing his work. His goal is to capture and eventually immortalize the terrific legacy of musical talent along Florida’s Forgotten Coast.
